Nine businesses have been selected for SAB Foundation’s new Social Innovation Investment Readiness Accelerator and Fund.

Managed by Impact Amplifier, the programme offers entrepreneurs the skills, knowledge, documentation and funding required for immediate success, while also positioning them for future rounds of funding from other investors. The businesses include:

• African Applied Chemicals – manufactures mosquito repelling fabric as a means to combat malaria.
• I Love Coffee – operates free standing and in-house coffee shops that support deaf people by providing training and employment opportunities.
• LCERT – promotes STEM education for grades 4 through 9 by offering low cost robotics tools, which are aligned with the South African curriculum.
• Medical Diagnostech – manufactures low cost lateral flow rapid diagnostic strips that test for malaria, HIV and pregnancy.  It has also developed an optical diagnostic tool that measures pupil dilation as a means of testing for substance abuse.
• Pelebox – is a smart locker system that enables patients to collect their repeat chronic medication in a quick, efficient, manner through a coordinated, secured SMS system.
• Prosthetic Centre of Excellence – uses proprietary products to provide affordable prosthetic equipment and fitting processes to amputees.
• Reel Gardening – enables children and adults to reconnect with where food comes from and empowers them to grow their own through simple patented products and education material.
• StarLab – is a fully self-contained mobile science lab, which promotes STEM education by creating opportunities for experiential learning in low income schools that lack laboratory infrastructure.
• Unconventional Waste Solutions – supports informal waste pickers by providing formal trollies, protective clothing, training and access to new markets.
